Founded by three women from three cultures, Malu Matriarchs Collective brings together Indigenous knowledge systems, commercial strategy and diplomatic intelligence to support organisations and governments working across the region.
The launch took place on International Women’s Day, grounding the moment not only in celebration, but in a deeper recognition of the matriarchal leadership traditions that have shaped communities for generations.
Beginning with Country
The launch was held on Kaurna Country in South Australia. Acknowledging Country is not ceremonial formality. It recognises the custodians of land whose governance systems and cultural knowledge extend back more than 65,000 years. Across Australia, thousands of Nations have maintained sophisticated systems of law, stewardship and relational governance long before the emergence of modern state institutions. For Malu Matriarchs Collective, this context is foundational. The future of development, infrastructure and governance cannot be separated from the knowledge systems that have sustained communities and landscapes for millennia.
Honouring Matriarchal Leadership
International Women’s Day often highlights women leading in boardrooms, parliaments and executive roles. But in many Indigenous and Pacific cultures, leadership begins elsewhere. It begins in kitchens. On Country. In villages and community halls. In the everyday spaces where women hold families, communities and futures together.
